The Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium opened last month in Iwate prefecture with a symbolic rugby match to commemorate the local recovery effort after The Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 and the subsequent tsunami which did considerable damage to the area. The 16,000 capacity stadium will host two matches during next year's Rugby World Cup and is the only facility among the 12 Rugby World Cup venues to be newly built for the event.
