150 Years of Railroads and Recommendations for Japanese Railroad Fans
The year 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the first railroad service in Japan, and in honor of this event Japan Railways Group is organizing various events throughout Japan through March 2023. We encourage you to sell the Japan Rail Pass or JR East Pass to any clients planning a trip to Japan so that they can enjoy this special year. Of course, they can ride on our famous "bullet trains" but they can also enjoy a trip through the countryside on a traditional steam train, just like 150 years ago.
Clients arriving in Japan with a rail pass should ask if there are any special events or souvenirs when they exchange the voucher for the pass, or at any JR station. One fun item that may be available is an inexpensive Suica transit card with a historical train image. There is also a very limited item: a pure gold model of the first train in Japan, “Pure Gold Locomotive No. 1.” Please contact us for details on how to sell the rail passes; and please ask us any travel questions that may help you to assist your clients.
