Shirakami Sanchi
Shirakami Sanchi is the largest virgin beech forest in East Asia, spanning over a third of the Shirakami mountain range found on the cusp of Aomori and Akita. The primeval forest remains unspoiled by society; its World Heritage section remains undeveloped, never opened to human activity barring mountain climbing paths. Lively with verdant plant life and diverse wildlife, the heart of Shirakami Sanchi is protected and preserved by the Japanese government.
Shirakami Sanchi is best visited during the summer, when the rivers flow freely and set a perfect atmosphere for travelers that enjoy hiking. With valleys and waterfalls, the ancient forest of Shirakami Sanchi is bountiful of rare plants and animals alike.
