Step into tradition in a Japanese bride and groom ensemble, with full styling, makeup, and professional photography
Uchiko Town, Ehime Prefecture
The Yokaichi-Gokoku district in Uchiko Town is Shikoku’s first Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. This is the lovely, historic setting for being professionally photographed in authentic traditional wedding kimono, complete with styling and makeup.
For centuries, bridal kimono in Japan have symbolized grace and new beginnings. A local family with ties to Uchiko donated a collection of 10 exquisite uchikake (bridal over-kimono) once used in a costume rental shop to the community, wishing them to be worn once more. Each piece, vibrant in color and rich in detail, is perfectly suited to the calm tone of the classical townscape.
We invite visitors to experience Uchiko’s heritage by wearing these authentic bridal outfits. This special opportunity is open to anyone, including new brides and grooms, LGBT couples, couples celebrating an anniversary, and even single people. Your beautiful appearance will be sure to bring smiles of delight to Uchiko’s residents and tourists.
A portion of the proceeds for this experience goes towards the Township Preservation Society, which helps them maintain and treasure their traditions.
