Connect to the hot springs, flavors, and riverside charm of Yamaguchi’s Nagato Yumoto Onsen from a newly-renovated lodging complex

Nagato Tourism Convention Association

Nagato Yumoto Onsen, home to SOIL Nagatoyumoto, is a nature-rich hot spring village nestled along the Otozure River. It’s centered around Onto, the oldest public hot spring in Yamaguchi Prefecture that dates back to the 1400s, and celebrated for its Hagi-yaki pottery tradition. Recent collaborative revitalization among the local community, government, and private sector has brought charming new attractions within walking distance, including restaurants serving kawara-soba and yakitori, Hagi pottery galleries and cafés, a craft beer brewery, and Fukawa-Hagi pottery kilns.

SOIL Nagatoyumoto is a multi-faceted lodging complex that reopened in March 2025 following a renovation of the former Rokkakudo ryokan, which was founded around 1900. The property offers 24 guest rooms, a panoramic river-view sauna, the Italian wood-fired restaurant TARU, an activity center, and a shop. Guests enjoy unlimited complimentary access to both the Onto hot spring and the sauna during their stay.

The complex’s activity center provides 14 immersive experiences, such as stand-up paddleboarding, bicycle rentals, salt-making workshops, and pottery kiln visits. Seasonal highlights such as cherry blossoms, summer river activities, autumn foliage, and winter illumination events add further appeal. By working closely with the local community, SOIL Nagatoyumoto serves as a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and immersive travel that transcends traditional accommodation.
