Immerse yourself in the cuisine, culture and natural scenery of Okutama, within easy access of the capital’s center
Ensen Marugoto Co., Ltd.
Just one hour and 30 minutes by train from Shinjuku, Okutama is Tokyo’s westernmost town. Once a thriving forestry region that supplied timber to the capital and wasabi to the shogun, this area is rich in history and closely connected to nature.
At Satologue, guests can experience the satoyama lifestyle, a way of living in harmony with the land handed down through generations. The hotel building was originally constructed in the early 1900s. In 2025, this historic property was reborn as a hotel where guests can explore the region’s food, culture, and heritage.
Facing the Tama River, its spacious grounds were once used for fish farming, now transformed into a vegetable garden and biotope where plants and animals thrive. A warehouse has been converted into a wood-fired sauna, and a once-abandoned house has been turned into a restaurant and guest rooms.
The chefs create gastronomic experiences using ingredients grown in the garden and sourced from passionate local producers. They also incorporate ingredients that would otherwise be discarded into their sustainable cuisine.
Step into the sauna, crafted from locally sourced timber, and you’ll be enveloped by the warmth and scent of wood. Cool down in a bath fed by the nearby waterfall, then relax surrounded by lush greenery. At Satologue, fully immerse yourself in the essence of wood, water, and air.
How to get there
From Tokyo Station, take the JR Chuo Line bound for Ome Station (1 hour and 30 minutes). Switch to the train heading for Okutama, and get off at either Hatonosu Station or Kori Station (about 30 minutes). Satologue is a 15-minute walk from Kori Station, or you can take a complimentary shuttle bus from Hatonosu Station.
