Visit Tokiwa Park in springtime and you’ll be treated to the sight of thousands of cherry blossoms in bloom throughout the 100-hectare park. Located in Yamaguchi, in the far-western region of Honshu, lakeside Tokiwa Park encompasses everything from an amusement park to outdoor art.

Most of the 3,100 cherry blossom trees here are Yoshino cherry blossom trees, Japan’s most iconic variety; you can admire them in the park’s Sakurayama area, as well as around the fountain pond and along the promenade. Also along the promenade are around 300 Satozakura, a late-blooming type, and there are six more types of cherry tree dotted around the scenic landscape.

As well as enjoying a classic hanami blossom viewing experience during the day, between late March and early April you can also enjoy seeing the delicate pink and white flowers illuminated each evening between late March and early April.
