Skiing at Tanigawadake Tenjindaira, Minakami Kogen Ski Resort, and Kawaba Ski Resort

Gunma Prefecture

Gunma Prefecture is home to ski resorts that can be easily accessed from Tokyo in about two hours.

Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort boasts some of the highest snowfall in the prefecture. The high elevation and excellent snow quality create extraordinary powder snow. With its longest course at 2,400 meters and its steepest course at 38 degrees, even advanced skiers are sure to enjoy themselves. The spectacular view from the top of the mountain, at 1,500 meters in elevation, is an absolute must-see. It’s worth it to come here just to catch a glimpse of the view.

If you’re looking to enjoy a variety of activities in addition to skiing and snowboarding, Minakami Kogen Ski Resort is a great place to go. Activities and facilities on offer include snowmobiling, dog sledding, and a kids’ park. This is the perfect place to bring your family to enjoy activities in the snow.

Kawaba Ski Resort has a fully equipped snow park in addition to its ten unique courses that make the most of the landscape. We recommend this resort for active skiers and snowboarders who are looking for more than just gliding down a slope.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the Joetsu Shinkansen  to Jomo-Kogen Station (about 1 hour 20 minutes). From Jomo-Kogen Station, board the bus headed for the Tanikawadake Loopway (about 50 minutes).
