Be There With Bells On: Introducing Iwate's Chagu Chagu Umako

Held every year on the second Saturday in June in Iwate Prefecture, the “Chagu Chagu Umako” is a traditional event in which horses in colorful decorations parade about 14 km with the sound of bells. The parade starts from Onigoe Sozen Shrine in Takizawa City, which enshrines a guardian deity of horses, and heads through the countryside to Morioka Hachimangu Shrine.

The festival boasts a history of about 200 years and is designated as a national intangible folk cultural asset. We invite you to experience the beautiful scene of the gorgeous procession and the sound of bells at the site!
