Explore Mystic Hida-Osaka Falls
A guided tour of an area with some of the most waterfalls in all Japan
Hike through a lava-forged wonder of nature at the Hida-Osaka Falls in Gero, nestled in the hills of Gifu Prefecture. Born from an eruption of Mt. Ontake some 54,000 years ago, the area enchants with more than 200 waterfalls with unique forms.
Walk at your own pace on hiking courses ranging from casual to challenging; for an even deeper experience, reserve a guided tour. The waterfall trekking tour is a particular delight and will take you through a national forest typically off-limits to visitors. You'll venture uphill, downhill, and off the beaten path as you wade through rivers and feel the mist against your face.
Hida-Osaka offers delights that change with the seasons, from verdant greenery and the songs of the birds in spring, to brilliant autumn foliage and newly spawned fish jumping above the waters in fall. The nearby hot spring village—featuring unique carbonated baths—is sure to soothe body and soul.
Access: From Nagoya Station, take the Hida Limited Express to Gero Station (about one hour 40 minutes), then transfer to the Hida Line local train to Hida-Osaka Station (about 25 minutes).
