Luxury Accommodations Immersed in Natural Surroundings
Find serenity and bliss in the natural environment of Aizu Wakamatsu, ancient city of the samurai
Tsuruga Higashiyama Sohonzan’s Premium Royal Suite offers a luxurious experience at a Japanese inn located at Aizu Higashiyama Hot Spring, a 1300-year-old resort on the outskirts of the city of Aizu Wakamatsu. Built in the traditional style, with peaked tile roof and a layout that embraces its natural surroundings, the suite is a spacious 169 square meters (more than 1800 square feet). It is perfectly sited to make the best of its location on the edge of a bamboo grove and the banks of a murmuring stream.
Guests are met by a dedicated butler focused on personalizing their stay. The suite includes a terrace deck, living room, bed room, dining room and bar counter, of course, but it also comes with a Japanese-style room and the pièce de résistance, a Japanese cypress bath in a room that can be opened to the elements outside. All the living areas have tatami floors. The executive chef oversees meals of traditional Aizu Kaiseki cuisine, a multi-course feast of local dishes accompanied by the local brands of sake for which the area is famous.
Given these amenities, it is quite understandable if guests are reluctant to leave the suite. Visitors are, however, encouraged to explore the Aizu area, which boasts a number of important historical sites such as Tsurugajo Castle, local breweries, and spectacular views of Mt Bandai.
Access: Take the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo Station to Koriyama Station (about 80 minutes), then take the local train to Aizuwakamatsu Station (about one hour). From the station, guests can arrange a courtesy car to the hotel (about 10 minutes).
