Meditate in an Open Deck Resort on Awaji Island

Get a taste of Zen with traditional cuisine, meditation, yoga, and more

Zenbo Seinei is a Zen wellness retreat amid the natural beauty of Awaji Island in the Seto Inland Sea. Instead of traditional temple architecture, it has facilities designed by architect and Pritzker laureate Shigeru Ban, including a 100-meter open-air deck for meditation to the sound of the birds and breeze.

Choose the Zen Wellness experience and you’ll be guided through meditation, yoga, and Zen-inspired workshops in calligraphy, tea, and incense. The food is traditional Buddhist cuisine made with no animal products, sugar, oil, or flour. Meanwhile, the Yoga Wellness experience is also led by experienced instructors who will help you connect breath, movements, and awareness through sun salutations and Vinyasa Yoga.

As well as half-day programs, there are overnight options, with guest rooms of two different sizes to choose from. Programs for women only, or with a special focus on specific aspects of health and spirituality, are also held regularly.

Getting there: From Shin-Osaka Station, take the local train to Sannomiya Station (30 minutes). From Sannomiya Station, take the bus to the Zenbo Seinei-mae bus stop (60 minutes).
