The Exquisite Nature of a Bamboo Forest
A place where you can enjoy your stroll through endless rows of tall and lean bamboo, and fall in love with the magical bamboo green and rustic tranquility.
Wakayama Farm sits on 24 hectares of land in Utsunomiya, a city in Tochigi Prefecture, two hours north of Tokyo. The farm is a 100-year-old agricultural enterprise that focuses on the cultivation of bamboo shoots, bamboo and chestnuts using a circular-agricultural method based on sustainable farming. It features a vast forest of bamboo that is used for harvesting bamboo shoots in spring, bamboo nursery for landscaping, and other purposes. The forest of soaring bamboo is an impressive sight set against the distant mountains of Nikko, and is often used as a location for dramatic scenes in movies and commercials.
Now you can experience this bamboo forest and the wonders of the bamboo plant for yourself. You can stroll through the bamboo groves, absorbing the quiet serenity of its year-round greenery, experience bamboo shoot harvesting in spring, learn craft-making using the natural wood of the plant, or drink tea from a bamboo cup (and take it home).
You can also enjoy the groves at night on weekends and holidays, when they are illuminated to create a mystical atmosphere. Or for an even more magical experience, camp in the groves overnight, suspended in a relaxing hammock tent in the midst of the bamboo forest, drifting off to the sound of the breeze through the leaves.
Take advantage of this rare chance for an eco-tourism encounter with the fascinating world of bamboo.
