Learn the basics of the dynamic moves and history of aikido during this 90-minute beginner-friendly class in Kanazawa.
Kanazawa City Tourism Association
Aikido is a modern martial art that combines spirituality with rigorous martial arts training. Practitioners aim to train the mind and body by refining techniques and improving themselves. For this reason, most schools do not hold matches or competitions.
In aikido, one does not oppose the power of an attack, but rather takes that power into themselves and becomes one with their opponent. There are no attack techniques, as the point is to defend oneself and subdue an opponent by dodging using circular movements.
During this 90-minute program, you will learn the rudiments of aikido at a highly recognized dojo in Kanazawa.
After being introduced to the members of the dojo, you will be instructed in the history and theory of aikido. The teacher will then demonstrate how the martial art’s techniques can be used to defend oneself from both empty-hand and sword attacks.
Then it is time to practice, starting with learning the proper way to bow, warm up, and take the basic stance. You will then move on to footwork and working on safe ways to take a break fall. Finally, you will learn some of the turns, dodges, and throws that make aikido such a powerful form of self-defense. All participants will receive a certificate at the end of the program.
