Autumn Foliage on Kajika Bridge

HOME > Japan’s Local Treasures > Autumn Foliage on Kajika Bridge

A beautiful vermilion-lacquered bridge radiant amid the foliage colors

Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture

Kajika Bridge is located in the innermost part of Ikaho Onsen, adjacent to the hot spring source and the Ikaho Rotenburo. The vermilion-painted drum bridge is a popular spot for enjoying the fresh greenery in spring and the autumn leaves in fall, and is a must-see when visiting Ikaho.

Many plants grow wild amid Kajika Bridge’s rich natural surroundings, including Japanese maple, sawtooth oak, and Japanese sumac. The colors of the scenery all change together in late October and peak in early November each year.

In the evening during the autumn foliage season, the bridge is beautifully illuminated, creating a different ambiance from the daytime.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the JR Takasaki Line to Takasaki Station (2 hours), then take the JR Joetsu Line or Azuma Line to Shibukawa Station (25 minutes). From Shibukawa Station, take the Kan-Etsu bus to Ikaho Onsen (20 minutes).
