Stay in the heart of Kochi and live like a local, enjoying the sights and flavors of the city
Kochi Prefecture
Tosa Gyoen, a ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn, which has been welcoming guests for almost a century, opened the ”decentralized hotel” STAY UWU in March 2024. STAY UWU comprises two houses and three apartments, formerly vacant homes which the inn lovingly restored into creative and comfortable spaces for visitors to Kochi City, each with its own distinct character.
The Gallery House, which can accommodate up to six people, features antique wood décor and a gallery of works by Kochi artists. The generously sized Oasis Room, which sleeps eight, has an artistic bathtub overlooking the rooftop garden. The special audio and bar space of the funky Penthouse Room encourages guests to linger, while the bright white Atelier Room is a soothing retreat after a long day of sightseeing. The warm wood and sunken kotatsu table of the Retro House allows visitors to get a taste of Japanese-style living.
All accommodation is within easy reach of the central Harimayabashi and Obiyamachi shopping areas, and just a short walk from major sightseeing spots like Kochi Castle, Hirome Market, and the popular Sunday Market. With a wide selection of restaurants and shops nearby, this is a great option for a self-catered vacation to this southern city in Shikoku.
