Listen to Gokayama folk music under beautiful autumn colors
Nanto City
UNESCO World Heritage Sites Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village and Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village are both situated in the area known as Gokayama. The area boasts a Japanese rural landscape that remains largely unchanged. Gokayama folk music and dance were passed down over generations and are now considered important intangible cultural assets. “Mugiya-bushi” and ”Kokiriko-bushi” specifically are two of the three main traditional songs of Toyama Prefecture. Every fall, locals to this day dance to “Mugiya-bushi” and “Kokiriko-bushi” in both Shimonashi and Kaminashi.
