A gorgeous two-kilometer sakura corridor along the Arakawa riverbank
Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture
Kumagaya City has been a famous place for cherry blossom viewing since the Edo period (1603–1868). Because of its beauty and history, Kumagaya Sakura-tsutsumi was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association.
From the second half of March to early April, about 500 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees form a beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms spanning two kilometers of the Arakawa riverbank, just a five-minute walk from Kumagaya Station. You can enjoy the view from the top of the bank and also go through the corridor formed by the cherry trees.
How to get there
From Tokyo Station, take the Joetsu/Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kumagaya Station (40 minutes). Kumagaya Sakura-tsutsumi is about a 5-minute walk from the station.
