Historically, Akita Prefecture’s eponymous canines were bred as hunting dogs. These days, the large, fluffy canines have become popular around the world for their funny expressions and lovable look.

Enjoy meeting, petting, and even walking powerful Akita dogs at Noshiro Kojuso, a kennel that specializes in breeding Akita dogs in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture. The facility is run by one of Japan's leading Akita breeders, and visitors can get up close to the huge dogs and get to know the breed characteristics.

Visitors can walk and play with cute puppies that look like balls of fluff, and see how they become fearless and protective as they grow up. Interacting with Akita dogs growing up in a caring, natural environment is something you can only experience here.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the Akita Shinkansen to Akita Station (approximately 3 hours 50 minutes). From there, take the Ou Main Line  to Kado Station (about 40 minutes).
