Hokkaido District Transport Bureau
Located in the center of Hokkaido, the town of Takasu is the perfect destination for those who want to enjoy idyllic rural scenery and the quiet yet magnificent nature away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The history of Takasu cannot be told without mentioning agricultural horses, which played a major role in its development as an agricultural town. The equipment used with horses at that time has been designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in Japan and is displayed at the town's local museum along with other exhibits about the town’s history.
Takasu offers a variety of agricultural activities that anyone can enjoy. In autumn, you can ride a combine harvester through golden rice fields and experience harvesting while interacting with local farmers. In winter, enjoy horse sledding in a beautiful white world where rice fields are covered in snow. After having a wonderful time with these activities, rest and relax while savoring dishes made with fresh local ingredients.
As it is not well-developed as a tourist destination, Takasu allows you to experience a life that is closely connected to nature. The town's calm scenery and slower pace of life combined with a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with the environment are definitely the simple charms of Hokkaido's rural landscape.
