Come taste the sweet and juicy Marihime strawberries of Kinokawa, Wakayama!
Kinokawa Fruits Tourism Bureau
Marihime strawberries are a variety of strawberry that is cultivated only in Wakayama Prefecture. Wakayama is famous for its fruits, including strawberries. Though you can try many kinds of strawberries in Wakayama, Marihime is a must-try. Marihime was named with the hope that it would become a cute and loved variety, similar to how the folk craft "Kishu Temari" is well-loved in Wakayama Prefecture. Marihime strawberries are large, juicy, and surprisingly sweet with almost no tartness. The city of Kinokawa is the number one strawberry producer in Wakayama, with Marihime and Sachinoka strawberries as the main varieties. The sugar content of strawberries decreases from the moment they are harvested, so the most delicious way to enjoy them is to eat the freshly picked strawberries where they are produced. Make sure to come and experience strawberry picking at Kinokawa from February to April.
