Experience the Beppu Ropeway and winter scenery on Mt. Tsurumi in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture
Toyonokuni Millennium Heritage Tourism Zone
Tsurumi-dake, or Mt. Tsurumi, is an active volcano with an altitude of 1,375 meters located in Beppu in Oita Prefecture, northeast Kyushu, and is designated a part of Aso-Kuju National Park.
It offers a rare view of the silvery world of rime ice in winter, when the temperature, humidity, and wind conditions are perfect. The ice will shine in the sun and fascinate you with its glistening beauty. You can reach the top of the 1,300-meter-high mountain in just 10 minutes if you ride the Beppu Ropeway. The ropeway station is only a 20-minute ride on the Yufuin-bound bus from the JR Beppu Station. Hop on the Beppu Ropeway to enjoy the fantastic panoramic view.
How to get there
From Hakata Station, take the Nippo Line limited express train “Sonic” and get off at Beppu Station (about 2 hours), then board a bus at the west exit (about 20 minutes) and disembark at Beppu Ropeway.
