Yuki Onsen
HOME > Japan’s Local Treasures > Yuki Onsen
Hiroshima City,Hiroshima Prefecture
People have been visiting the natural healing waters in the tiny village of Yuki Onsen for more than 1,500 years. Surrounded by forested hills northwest of Hiroshima Prefecture, Yuki is a tranquil setting in which you can relax and enjoy the quintessential Japanese onsen hot spring experience in radium-rich springs that are piped straight from the ground.
Wedged between the hills and wrapped in nature, Yuki is the perfect place to relax and see the seasons change throughout the year. Take a dip in one of the lovely open-air rotenburo baths that overlook the clear Minochi River, which flows through the heart of the village.
You can also find adventure here, such as canyoning in the local gorges. And don’t miss the local culinary specialties, ayu (sweetfish) and konnyaku (devil’s tongue) yam(devil’s tongue).
Less than two hours from central Hiroshima, Yuki Onsen makes the perfect day trip from the city. However, if you’d like to stay overnight, there are two hotel options: Kajika-so and Yuki Lodge.
If you’re staying longer, the village is also not far from Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima, and the town of Iwakuni, with its historical arched bridge, known as Kintai-kyo. If you like hiking, head for the trails around picturesque Sandankyo Gorge.
Take the train from Kansai International Airport to JR Shin-Osaka Station (about 50 minutes). Next, take the Shinkansen bullet train to JR Hiroshima Station (about 1 hour 25 minutes) followed by the Sanyo Main Line to JR Itsukaichi Station (about 15 minutes). From JR Itsukaichi Station, take the Hiroden bus bound for Yuki Lodge-mae (about 1 hour 15 minutes).
