A kingdom of fireworks in snow country

Niigata Prefecture

Niigata Prefecture is famous for winter skiing, and the Yuzawa ski resort is especially well-known. Only 1 hour 10 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen, Yuzawa Town has 11 ski resorts offering a wide variety of courses to meet the needs of everyone from beginners to advanced skiers. Yuzawa is also a hot spring town. After spending a day on the slopes, soak in the hot springs to soothe away the day’s fatigue. You can also enjoy delicious rice and local ingredients to enrich your day.

At 12 ski slopes in the town, you can see fireworks with different themes on specific days from December to March every year. The clear winter air and fireworks that color the snow-white slopes are a winter tradition of Yuzawa.

On certain slopes, skiers hold up torches to glide down slopes where charming snow candles set the surface aglow, creating a magical scene of light and shadow on the silvery white mountains.

How to get there

Echigo-Yuzawa Station is 1 hour 10 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen. One ski resort is directly connected to the Shinkansen bullet train stop, another is a 3-minute walk from the station, and the rest are scattered within a range of 10 to 50 minutes by shuttle bus from the station, making them extremely accessible.
