Kokeizan Eihoji Temple, the historical Zen temple in Tajimi
Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture
Kokeizan Eihoji Temple is a Zen-Buddhist temple founded in 1313. The Kannondo Hall and Kaisando Hall built 700 years ago are both designated National Treasures because of their traditional Zen-style architecture. The beautiful garden inside was also designated as a National Scenic Beauty. The temple, which has been a place of intense training for Buddhist monks, is open to the public; the temple grounds are very popular and admired for their beautiful, traditional views all year round. The colored leaves in autumn are exceptionally stunning for their beauty and relax visitors with timeless views that have been selected to be part of the “Top 33 Spots in Hida and Mino for Enjoying the Autumn Leaves.” In the precincts of the temple, you can buy a Darumamikuji, a small, red-painted good-luck doll with a fortune slip inside, which is popular among the locals.
