Experience the heart of Japan at Zenkoji Daikanjin
Nagano Prefecture
Discover the essence of Japanese spirituality through a transformative cultural experience at Zenkoji Daikanjin in Nagano. Our exclusive Zen Journey program offers travelers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Japan’s rich Buddhist traditions through hands-on activities designed to relax the mind and nourish the soul.
One of the features of the program is sutra copying (shakyo). Calm your mind and find focus as you copy the six characters of the Namu Amida Butsu sutra using traditional ink and brush. This ancient practice brings serenity and a deep connection to Buddhist teachings.
Then, during zazen, or Zen meditation, you will be guided by experienced monks to learn the art of mindful breathing in a simple and comfortable seated position. Zazen meditation is accessible to all, offering a peaceful escape from everyday stress.
Another highlight is the powerful Goma fire ceremony. Write your personal wishes on a wooden plaque, then toss your plaque into the sacred fire, symbolically offering your prayers and desires to the universe.
How to get there
