Notice about Private Lodging in Japan

In Japan, from June 15 when the Private Lodging Business Act (hereinafter “PLB Act”) becomes effective, any intermediary activities to reserve rooms at accommodations not licensed under the Inns and Hotels Act or those not duly registered under the PLB Act, is unlawful. Accordingly, reservations for such rooms through online booking sites may be subject to cancellation.

You can confirm whether or not the room you have booked through an online booking site belongs to an accommodation that is not licensed or is not registered, by directly inquiring to the site.

In Japan a variety of accommodation options are available to you and it is easy to change your bookings in order to secure alternative accommodations including private residence rentals duly registered under the law. For your convenience we have listed accommodation search sites below, which list only licensed accommodations or those duly registered. These are only examples, and all sites that handle properties in Japan, including other search sites, cooperate to handle only legitimate properties.

Thank you very much for your attention and we look forward to welcoming you to Japan.
