Meet traditional crafts' beauty in the center of SAN'IN 【A TRIP TO THE HEART OF THE SAN'IN REGION】
The center of SAN'IN, located in Tottori and Shimane prefectures, consists of 5 cities (Izumo, Matsue, Yasugi, Yonago and Sakai-minato) and the Mt.Daisen Area (7 towns and cities) that surrounds Lake Nakaumi and Lake Shinji. There are various traditional crafts and museums where you can meet new inspiration, history and beauty.
The Izumo Museum of Quilt Art
The only quilt museum in Japan, the building is a traditional Izumo residence set within an enclosure of pine trees known as tsuijimatsu. On display are the works of Japan's leading quilt artist, Yawatagi Mutsuko. Be impressed by the elegance of the Japanese style interior and installations, and the degree of detail to be found in the handiwork.
Yakumo-nuri Yamamoto
A long-established lacquerware store located at Matsue Ohashi Kitazume, we have a selection of containers, chopsticks, hand mirrors, and boxes instore. Unique to Matsue, painting by the Yakumo-nuri technique allows for the brightening of color and an increase in the transparency of the lacquer as the product ages. The amber cup of Yakumo Hyakudan, made from sandalwood, has gained great popularity for its beauty.
