A relaxing trip in an unexplored region

Recommended season

DAY 1

Tokushima's annual summer festival, Awa Odori, attracts more than a million tourists annually. The dancers parading in rhythm is a sight to behold! At the Awa Odori Kaikan, you can watch a dance demonstration and attend a lecture on how to dance by the professionals. After enjoying the dance, head to your next destination, the Naruto Straits. The whirlpools of about 20 meters in height, created by the differences in the tides of the sea, are a spectacle!

DAY 2

Visit Ochiai village in Iya, a secluded area that has been inhabited for over 1,000 years. The entire area of houses built on the slopes of the mountain has been recognized by the government as a good example of traditional architecture. The scenery of the unspoiled nature and the stone walls piled up one by one by the people are breathtakingly beautiful. After strolling around, take an open-air hot bath at the bottom of the valley for a taste of paradise. The cable car ride with precipitous views of the cliffs is also exhilarating.

DAY 3

Take a ride on the Oku-Iya sightseeing loop monorail, the world's longest sightseeing monorail at 4,600 meters in length. After enjoying nature, go to the Kazurabashi Bridge in Iya. It is a 45-meter-long suspension bridge made of kudzu. The bridge swaying with each step while seeing the torrent of water beneath your feet is sure to be a thrilling experience! In the past, the people living in the village had to cross the Kazurabashi Bridge after entering the mountains and crossing a mountain pass. If you walk along the same path, you will be able to feel the life of a bygone era.

DAY 4

Speaking of Okayama in summer, white peaches are in season from June to August. The secret of the pure white peaches is that they are bagged by hand and not exposed to sunlight. This also makes them smooth and tender. You can pick peaches in the suburbs and enjoy the fresh fruit to your heart's content. After dusk, Korakuen Garden is lit up, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Walk around the park wearing a rented yukata for a memorable summer experience.
