From November until the end of March, all-you-can-eat buffets are available for everybody to enjoy in the oyster huts of Uramura in Toba City, Mie Prefecture. A wide variety of oyster huts participate in this seasonal highlight along the Toba Pearl Road, known as Oyster Road, with some huts offering the ultimate shellfish lovers’ dream: oyster buffets with no time limit, even allowing you to bring in your own food and drinks.
You can dig into as many freshly caught oysters as you want and you also get to grill it to your preferred doneness. Furthermore, you can also savour these grilled oysters in a floating restaurant while revelling in the beauty of the picturesque Toba Bay.
Additionally, at Hachiman Kamado, an Ama hut turned small restaurant in Toba City, you can experience the Ama (free diving fisherwomen) culture and taste the bounty of the sea including abalones, turban shells, oysters, lobsters and etc. Communicating with the locally well-known Ama there can be a wonderful addition to your travel memoir.

How to get there :Take the Kintetsu Line or JR train from Nagoya for about 1 hr 40 minutes and get off at Toba Station. Take the Kamome bus from Toba Bus Center in front of Toba Station. On weekdays, get on the bus headed for “Ijikako” and on Sat, Sun and holidays, get on the bus headed for “Adakoguchi”. The bus stop to get off depends on which restaurant you are going to.
