The Akanko Onsen area in Eastern Hokkaido is a place of untouched nature, with a beautiful view of Lake Akan and the towering peak of Oakan-dake. One of the best places to stay in Akanko Onsen is Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga, a hotel where you can relax and revel in elegance. As soon as you enter this hotel, you will be welcomed by a luxurious atmosphere that incorporates a fusion of traditional Japanese and Ainu cultural designs. Its highlight is the onsen, with over 30 different kinds of baths that include large open-air baths in the ground and top floor. Some rooms also have an attached onsen bath, so you can soak in the privacy of your room. What’s more, lodging guests can make use of the hot stone beds and treatment spa at the neighboring Tsuruga Wings Hotel.

The hotel’s elegance also extends to its dining services, with a buffet offering a large selection of dishes from various cuisines, made using excellent Hokkaido ingredients. You can also choose to enjoy a traditional kaiseki multi-course dinner in a Japanese restaurant or in your own room.

If you’re looking for something to do in the area, Lake Akan offers a variety of events and cultural activities throughout the year. In winter from early January to late March, Lake Akan freezes over, and you can enjoy activities such as snowmobile rides, snowshoe tours, and ice fishing. You can also watch a fireworks display held over the lake every night from early February to early March.
