Hiroshima is the main producer of oysters in Japan, so it comes to no surprise that fishermen here put in a lot of effort to ensure its high quality. Hiroshima Bay provides the ideal condition for oyster farming with its beautiful weather and calm waters. Witness up close how oysters are bred, harvested, and carefully maintained from the farm rafts with the bonus of a magnificent view of the Itsukushima Shrine upon returning to shore. Imagine the sight of thousands of oysters being hulled for harvesting! At their factory, you get to observe how oysters are efficiently ‘shucked’ for packing and serving.
Oyster farmers dedicate their lives in creating balance between nature and farming. The secret to the sweetness of their oysters is the natural nutrients from the forests surrounding the area. Bearing this in mind, they also plant trees every year to give back to nature. At the end of the tour, you get to taste their signature dish called, Fisherman-style Oyster Porridge. They also offer all-you-can-eat oysters at their Oyster Hut. The luscious taste of fresh oysters melts in your mouth!

How to get there
By train and from Hiroshima station, take JR Sanyo Line and get off at Miyajimaguchi Station, then walk along the National Route 2 towards Yamaguchi for about 10 minutes.
By car and coming from Yamaguchi City, exit at Ono IC from Sanyo Highway and then take Route 2 towards Hiroshima. The travel takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
By car and coming from Hiroshima City, exit at Hatsukaichi IC road from Sanyo Highway, then head towards Yamaguchi. It will take approximately 30 minutes.
