A traditional boat ride through some of Tochigi's most dynamic scenery

Kinugawa Onsen is one of Tochigi Prefecture's most popular attractions. The scenery surrounding the Kinugawa River is no less striking and accounts for some of the most dramatic to be found in Japan. Take the Kinugawa Line Kudari River Cruise in traditional wooden boats to discover this incredible view for yourself.

How to Get There

The cruise departure point is a short walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. Once your cruise is over, take the free shuttle bus and return to Kinugawa Onsen Station.

Quick Facts

Life-jacket wearing is required

Cruises generally run from April to November and reservations are recommended

From gentle river bends to minor rapids

What makes the cruises so interesting is that your boat is traditional in style and made out of wood. Your guide will be wearing historical garb and paddling with an oar. Seat yourself on the bamboo mats and traverse through gentle river bends and even minor rapids. While the ride may get rocky at times, it is completely safe.

Seasonal beauty

Autumn is one of the most popular times for cruising, but the surrounding scenery is popular all throughout the year. Cherry blossom foliage and weeping wisteria make for a heady, scented journey, while verdant green trees distract from summer's heat. You may even catch glimpses of wildlife, including wild deer, monkeys, and birds of prey during your journey.
