Mountainside area beautiful in all seasons but spectacular in fall
Nita Pass is famous for its vibrant autumnal colors. With over five different types of maple trees, azalea flowers and over 120 species of autumn leaf plants, Nita Pass comes to life in one big crescendo of fiery color before cooling off for winter.

How to Get There
You can reach Nita Pass by taxi, car, or on foot. From Unzen , take a "shared taxi" service, regular taxi, rental car, or walk.
The "shared taxi" costs 430 yen one way and only departs twice a day (reservation required). Alternatively, you can take your own taxi up to the Pass, which will set you back about 1,800 yen. Walking to the lower ropeway station is another option. However, a rental car is the most efficient way to get around Unzen.

Watch the mountain transform
At Nita Pass lookout, which stands at 1,080 meters above sea-level, you can enjoy autumn's blazing hues sweeping across the mountainside. From here you can even see Mt. Heisei-Shizan, created by the eruption of Fugendake in 1990.
Ride the ropeway
You can also catch a ropeway from this point, which will take you to Mt. Myokendake. Float over a sea of red and yellows and watch the world come to life underneath your feet.
