Explore Toyota City’s Spectacular Sights

Stroll through a park renowned for its autumn cherry blossoms, behold a river gorge with brilliantly illuminated maple trees, visit a stunning temple, and more

This tour is only available in mid- to late November and starts at Shin-Toyota Station. From there, it’s an hour’s drive to Senmi Shikizakura no Sato Park. The four-season cherry blossom trees, which bloom in autumn as well as spring, are what make this park special. Cherry blossoms side by side with autumn foliage is a rare—and quintessentially Japanese—sight.

From there, you move on to Obara Fureai Park, where you can stroll around, trying snacks from the food stalls for lunch. Then the tour splits. You have two options: Japanese papermaking or persimmon tasting. If you choose the former, you head to Obara Paper Art Museum, where friendly instructors will teach you how to make plant-fiber-based washi paper. Choose the latter and you will visit a persimmon orchard before heading to Strawberry Park Mifune, a café and shop with all sorts of delicious seasonal fruit dishes.

Then it’s time to go to the Korankei Gorge. You will arrive just in time to see day turn to dusk and then to night, when the illuminations are switched on, making the fall maples even more picturesque. Other highlights include the “tunnel of leaves” leading up to Kojakuji Temple and the vermilion Taigetsukyo Bridge, a popular photo spot. After two hours exploring the park, it’s back on the bus for the 45-minute return journey to Shin-Toyota Station. 

Access: From Nagoya Station, take the JR Chuo Line to Kozoji Station. Change to the Aichi Loop Railway and get off at Shin-Toyota Station (about one hour).
From Chubu Centrair International Airport, take the direct bus bound for Toyota-shi (one hour 10 minutes). Get off at Toyota-shi (Meitetsu Toyota Hotel), then walk for around 10 minutes.
