Learn about local sake brewing and savor a fresh seafood and sake dinner in Miyagi Prefecture
Kesennuma Regional Strategy
Kesennuma City in Miyagi Prefecture is known around Japan for its fish market and daily catches of fish. Many restaurants in the city use the freshly caught fish supplied from the fish market. There are two local sake breweries, Otokoyama Honten and Kakuboshi, which create their brews with fishermen in mind, so they have something to enjoy when they get back from their voyages at sea.
The Kesennuma Brewer’s Table was born from that concept, combining the fresh seafood that Kesennuma City is known for with sake specifically made to pair with the local catch. Each brewery offers a different course dinner menu, either a Japanese-style or Western-style dinner. Both experiences start with a tour of the respective brewery to learn the history of sake in Kesennuma, followed by the dinner at a nearby restaurant.
The Japanese-style dinner features sake from Kakuboshi, served right next door at the restaurant Meigetsu. The Western-style dinner is served at Nine-One and features sake from Otokoyama Honten. Both dinners feature seasonal dishes that change based on the daily catch, offering a unique experience each time.
