Take a Cycling Tour Along Roads Less Traveled

Experience the local lifestyle of rural Nagano

Those eager to venture off the beaten track will be rewarded with fresh experiences when exploring Japan's picturesque countryside. Take the adventure one step further and join Zukudashi Eco Tour for a cycling discovery of the rural way of life. Knowledgeable, bilingual guides will share their local insight as you explore the hot spring town of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen and its surroundings.

Starting in the town's residential district, you will pass through streets lined with traditional architecture before ascending a forested trail to discover an ancient, thatched-roof temple. Enjoy the calming flow of the Chikuma River and soak up the nostalgic atmosphere of this onsen (hot springs) town that is reminiscent of old Japan. Stop along the way to learn some of the lesser-known history of the area.
You will even have the opportunity to experience everyday rural life with your own hands. Hop off your bike at a fruit orchard or rice field, where farmers will passionately demonstrate centuries-old agricultural techniques―be sure to have a go yourself while you're there!

The cycling tour may change depending on the season, weather, and your preferred travel style. Whatever you opt for, you won't want to miss the final stop! Enjoy ice cream with your travel companions while warming your toes in a rejuvenating foot bath.

Access: From Tokyo Station, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Ueda Station (about one hour 30 minutes), then transfer to the Shinano Railway Line to Tokura Station (about 25 minutes) and take the Chikuma City bus to the Sogo Kanko Kaikan stop (about 16 minutes).
