An exciting adventure on the Yoshino River
Tokushima Prefecture
The Yoshino River flows from Kochi to Tokushima Prefecture. It is the longest river on the island of Shikoku, stretching for 194 kilometers. Over a period of 200 million years, the raging rapids have carved striking rock formations along the riverside. The Oboke and Koboke Gorges, located in the middle stretches of the river, are the best sections of the river for enjoying exhilarating whitewater rafting.
The scenery in the approximately eight-kilometer-long gorges looks like soaring marble sculptures towering above you. The gorges have earned high praise from rafting enthusiasts for the volume, power, and depth of the water, along with the undulating terrain. It is almost as if the course was created especially for the sport. In 2017, the World Rafting Championships were held here. The sparkling emerald green surface and transparent water that allow you to see to the bottom of the river have managed to capture the hearts of many rafting enthusiasts.
How to get there
From Shin-Osaka Station, take the Shinkansen bullet train to Okayama (45 minutes), then take the Nanpuu Limited Express to Oboke Station (1 hour 30 minutes).
