Ashikaga Flower Park is a famous flower park in Ashikaga City, Tochigi prefecture. The one-square kilometer park is filled with various trees and blossoms with flowers throughout the year: tulips and azaleas in Spring, Iris and water lily in summer, amethyst sage in autumn, and winter-flowering peony. The symbol of the park is the 160-year-old great wisteria called "Ofuji." It is so large that it covers over 1000 square meters, which is over 600 tatami mats. Because its beauty, in 2014, Ashikaga Flower Park was selected as one of the 10 Dream Tourist Destinations in the World by CNN. In recent years, the park has also become very popular in the massive winter illumination display. The event was ranked among the TOP 3 biggest light up events in Japan in 2017. It was also ranked TOP by night view critics in Japan as best illumination event for six consecutive years.
