Breathtaking views and relaxing hot springs at the foot of Mt. Fuji

Yamanashi Tourism Organization

There is one experience that unfortunately some tourists to Japan miss out on or refuse to even consider—Japanese onsen. But don’t write Japan’s hot springs off as just over-glorified bathtubs, especially not Fuji Yurari Onsen. Located at the foot of Mt. Fuji, this “higaeri onsen” (day trip hot spring facility) boasts views that will take your breath away. Fuji Yurari Onsen is just twenty minutes away from two of the Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Saiko, and offers many campaign packages for guests who would like to visit other sites in the area, from snowboarding locations to lodges and much more. The onsen features natural hot spring water from melting snow 1,000 meters underground at the foot of Mt. Fuji that has been filtered through layers of rock and sand for many years. There are 16 different types of baths, including indoor and outdoor baths, as well as baths with different water temperatures and effects. There are also private baths available for those who want to enjoy the onsen in a private setting. After bathing, you can enjoy meals at the facility.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the train to JR Otsuki Station (1 hour 15 minutes), then transfer to the Fujikyuko Line to Kawaguchiko Station (1 hour). From Kawaguchiko Station, take a bus bound for Lake Motosu to Fuji Midori no Kyuka-mura (20 minutes).
