Observe the snow monsters of Mount Moriyoshi at night from aboard a Pisten snow tractor

“Snow monsters” are essentially frost-covered trees that grow in size throughout the winter season. When the snow monsters appear at Mt. Moriyoshi, special night tours are conducted using Pisten snow tractors that are usually only ridden by resort staff. This makes Mt. Moriyoshi the only famous snow monster–viewing spot in Tohoku where you can observe the monsters from a Pisten.
The snow tractors used here are equipped with a personnel cabin and are able to accommodate up to 15 people. Climb to a height of up to 1,400 meters and enjoy the view of the snow monsters from the comfort of a cabin furnished with a heater to keep you warm from the winter cold. It takes 30 minutes one way to arrive at the arctic world of the snow monsters. Using the light from the snow tractor, watch the magical sight unfold as the towering monsters come into view.
This tour is conducted on weekdays and holidays from February till the end of March. The rare views of Mt. Moriyoshi's beautiful snow monsters at night are definitely worth a visit.
How to get there
From Haneda Airport, take a flight to Odate-Noshiro Airport (1 hour 10 minutes). From Odate-Noshiro Airport, take the limousine bus to Takanosu Station (about 15 minutes), then ride the Nairiku Railway Line to Aniai Station (about 1 hour). From Aniai Station, take a share taxi to Ani Ski Resort (about 30 minutes).
