Mogi, a small town in Nagasaki Prefecture, has been gaining popularity in recent years among tourists from all over the world. The port of Mogi used to be a gateway to the Unzen area, which foreign residents living in the Nagasaki Foreign Settlement frequently visited for summer getaways. The town has since thrived on tourism and cultivated its food culture, which offers traditional Japanese restaurants.
For example, at Nakazaki, the most famous eatery at this location, you can experience cuisine featuring fugu (blowfish). The udon noodles made with fugu broth are very tasty as well. In Nagasaki, this is the only restaurant where you can taste udon noodles made with fugu broth.
You will easily find yourself immersed in the town's unique, nostalgic atmosphere, as it is only a 20-minute bus or taxi ride from Nagasaki Station.
How to get there
Take the limited express train from Hakata Station to Takeo Onsen Station (approx. 1 hour), then take the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen from Takeo Onsen Station to Nagasaki Station (20 minutes).
Take the bus bound for Kitaura from the Nagasaki Ekimae bus stop. After getting off at the Mogi stop, walk for 10 minutes.
