Over 20 snow huts known as Kamakura appear in Iiyama, Nagano Prefecture, between late-January and February every year, creating the fairytale-like Restaurant Kamakura Village. Popular among domestic and international visitors, locals build Kamakura on top of snow covered rice fields, tin this annual tradition that has come to symbolize winter in Iiyama.
Dining inside a 3m-tall Kamakura is like a scene straight from a picture book, and is bound to be an unforgettable experience! You can warm up inside a Kamakura with a Noroshi Nabe, a local specialty hot pot made with Shinshu Miso, locally grown mushrooms and vegetables. Lanterns illuminating the Kamakura create a beautiful atmosphere at night.
