Soma Nomaoi Festival: Warriors on Horseback Re-enact the Samurai Era!

The sight of mounted warriors clad in armour performing rituals would make you feel like you have travelled back in time to the samurai era.

On the second day, the main festival, Nomaoi, features the “Procession”, where about 400 mounted warriors parade through the city; the “Armoured Horse Racing”, where horses and horseback riders gallop together as one, and the “Divine Flag Battle”, where hundreds of cavalry warriors fight to capture a sacred flag that is released into the air. You can get up close to see the warriors embodying the spirit of the samurai.

Come and witness the samurai era brought back to the modern age!
