The Taimatsu Akashi Festival, held every November in Sukagawa City in Fukushima Prefecture, is one of Japan's three major fire festivals with a history of over 400 years. During this spectacular event, thirty giant 10-metre torches weighing three tons burn bright red, creating a breathtaking spectacle that conveys the memories of the fierce battles that took place during the Sengoku Period.
At the climax of the festival, the flames paint the night sky red, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Visitors can experience the powerful fire festival while feeling the traditions and history of Japan, surrounded by the sound of the heroic torch drums.
There are also various participatory events, such as a small torch procession through the town and princess torches carried by women, which tourists can enjoy as well, so please come and experience this powerful festival.
