Travel Highlights
So, when is the best time to visit?
A common question that is bound to be on any prospective traveller's mind - though ultimately, the answers are as varied as your interests, and travel styles.
While many will tell you the answer is spring, when cherry blossoms are at their peak in late March-early April, you can expect pricier flights, and crowding at certain popular destinations as a result.
Though the humidity of Japanese summer is not for the faint of heart, this syncs up well with the Canadian academic calendar, and boasts some of the most historic festivals nationwide - particularly throughout July and August.
For those less keen on the heat, autumn provides a welcome alternative, with the beauty of the changing leaves rivalling that of the cherry blossoms, and plenty of delicious cuisine borne of the harvest season.
Finally, in addition to being one of the most affordable times to travel, winter is one of the best times to enjoy Japan's culture of hot springs - not to mention, the world-class powder snow of ski destinations such as Nagano and Hokkaido.
A detailed breakdown and list of major events can be found via the links above, as well as on our "Travel Highlights" sliding menu. In addition to this, we publish a monthly event calendar in our digital brochure database, which features plenty of information on smaller, local festivals as well.
