Kick Back on Sun-Soaked Aoshima Beach
Enjoy fun and nature galore at this coastal Miyazaki resort
If sunbathed splashing is your thing, look no further than Aoshima Beach, just south of Miyazaki City in the namesake prefecture. Miyazaki, in eastern Kyushu and the far southwest of Japan, is known for its balmy weather.
These shores in particular offer picture-postcard views of the blue Pacific waters, with more than enough to keep both surfers and sightseers happy. Stroll along the beach to Aoshima Island and admire its striking striated basalt rock formation (nicknamed the “Devil’s Washboard”). Or why not check out further visual feasts and visit the Shinto shrine and Japanese torii gate on the island itself? Into marine sports?
Aoshima Beach lets you surf, sail, or swim as well. All-comers can soak up a relaxed community vibe, with shops and cafes open in the summer months.
