Explore Geological Wonders Around Izu Peninsula
Take in the breathtaking nature of one of Japan's most beautiful regions with an expert guide
Shizuoka's Izu Peninsula is one of Japan's most popular destinations for hot springs and natural beauty. Experience it on an even deeper level by touring the region with your own personal "geo guide," one of more than 100 individuals certified to help visitors learn about and enjoy the Izu Peninsula Geopark, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2018.
Your guide will be happy to lead you through this striking natural heritage site—part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park—featuring unique landforms, geology, ocean views, and more. Observe mountains and rivers, consider their origins, and explore the ecosystems and the flora and fauna that call them home. You'll learn about the peninsula's unique volcanic history along with the geological events that have shaped it over the millennia. With guides covering each of the five areas of the peninsula, you're guaranteed an experience tailored specifically to your interests.
You'll also have the chance to learn first-hand about the culture and history of the area, with many of the guides being well-versed in history, literature, and traditional song and dance as well. After exploring the natural wonders the peninsula has to offer, ask your guide to recommend a local hot spring or a restaurant where you can dine on regional cuisine.
