Private Homes Repurposed with World-Class Elegance

A choice of luxury stays in the coastal resort town of Atami

Curation Hotel is a former luxury residence that has been repurposed and reinvented as a boutique accommodation. They are located in the hot-spring town of Atami, a resort on the Izu Peninsula, overlooking Sagami Bay. The restoration of the buildings was overseen by internationally known interior designers to create beautiful spaces that blend Japanese traditional art and architecture with modern aesthetics—all while considering sustainable development goals.

Each space has its own distinctive concept that is expressed in its use of art and furnishings, traditional and modern. Tounoya-an, for example, was once the annex to a traditional inn built in the naturalistic sukiya style. Suto-suien features a precious collection of the owner’s artworks, while Momoyama-gaen has a large, open-plan living area ideal for use as a party space.

The luxury extends from the elegant interiors to the amenities, and the special cultural experiences and personal tours that can be made to order. These range from a private performance of traditional Noh theater to sunset cruises and trekking in the nearby hills. A food concierge can arrange meals of specialties from local farms and the abundant seafood of the area, either catered for service in the rooms, or by guiding guests to one of the many fine restaurants nearby.

Access: Take the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo Station to Atami Station (about 45 minutes).
