Mighty Mt. Aso is home to an official UNESCO Global Geopark. Book a tour to visit its majestic peak and see the Aso Caldera, a massive and still very active volcano. Visitors should be forewarned that the crater and some hiking trails may be closed off during times of heightened volcanic activity.

Access: From Tokyo Haneda Airport, fly to Aso Kumamoto Airport (about one hour 55 minutes), then take the Kumamoto Airport Limousine Bus to the Aso Eki-mae stop (about 50 minutes). From Hakata Station, take the Kyushu Shinkansen to Kumamoto Station (about 30 minutes), then transfer to the Hohi Line local train to Aso Station (about one hour 20 minutes).
