Stand on Top of the World at Mount Aso

Visit the Aso UNESCO Global Geopark for breathtaking nature tours

Mighty Mount Aso houses a geopark officially recognized by UNESCO. Book a tour atop its majestic peak and see the Aso Caldera, one of the world’s largest. Aso's Geoguides provide detailed tours of Mount Aso's majesty, with particular insight into the rock and local fauna's relationship to the volcano.
Choose from a short two-hour excursion or a full six-hour tour, and spend a day in the crisp mountain air, taking in one vista after another. Travel from cooling waterfalls to the massive Uchinomaki hot spring. Tours are customizable, but vary depending on length and package. Book yours today for an up-close look at nature's raw beauty—it’s no wonder that the entire region has been designated as Aso Kujū National Park.

Aso Station can be reached by bus from various major cities in Kyushu, and is about a 70-minute ride (one-way) from Aso Kumamoto airport. Visitors should be forewarned that the crater and some hiking trails may be closed off during times of heightened volcanic activity. Rental cars are also convenient for accessing the crater, but be aware that part of the road requires a toll.
